One two-month cruise through the Land Down Under is being halted days after the death of an elderly woman who was stranded by the vessel on a isolated coastal location.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but broke off from the group for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back after some time after the crew became aware the passenger was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission located her body the following day.

Officials are looking into the tragedy, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer announced that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior technical problems".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to organize the travel back of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an revised announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" prohibiting any further travelers from boarding the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its return.

Sequence of Incidents

The vessel first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the 80-year-old's demise. Lizard Island was the opening port on the voyage.

Guests on the vessel - who generally pay substantial amounts of dollars to take part in the expedition - were taken there for a day trip with the choice of hiking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Statement

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "stunned and grieved that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised outing without my parent".

In her statement, she described her mum as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a member of a bushwalking group.

"From the little facts we have been provided, it appears that there was a breakdown of attention and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She added that she wished the examination would be able to identify what "the company should have done that might have protected Her life".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a very hot afternoon, and mum fell ill on the hill climb," she revealed.

"She was asked her to head down, alone. Then the boat sailed away, seemingly without conducting a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or shortly after, she succumbed, without company."

Company Response

Via official communication, the Chief Executive verified that the organization was "collaborating extensively with investigators to assist their investigation".

He stated that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had extended its full support to the family.

The ship caters for up to a hundred twenty passengers with 46 crew, according to official information. It was purpose-built to reach isolated areas of Australia's coast and is equipped with "tenders" - minor craft used to ferry individuals on shore trips.

Occurrences such as this are rare, and liners have systems to track which passengers are getting on or disembarking, according to industry experts.
